A presence-based philosophy of leadership and transformation... from potential to presence, from acorn to oak.
My theory of leadership and growth envisions development as a natural, organic process of becoming — an unfolding from potential to presence, from acorn to oak. Each acorn carries within it the full blueprint of the oak; in the same way, every person holds innate potential for growth, wisdom, and leadership.
Rooted in the principles ofPresence-Based® Coaching, my model views leadership not as a fixed role but as a living practice of awareness, embodiment, and connection. Growth unfolds through cycles of being and doing: noticing, nurturing, and acting — grounded in compassion and choice.
When we cultivate presence, we become steady in uncertainty, attuned in relationship, and creative in complexity. Over time, this practice yields resilient, aware, and adaptive teams and communities — a forest of oaks, deeply rooted and dynamically alive.
The Being of Leadership
Presence-based leadership begins with who we are before what we do. It is embodied through qualities such as adaptability, empathy, curiosity, and respect — a steady openness that allows for authentic connection.
The Doing of Leadership
From that foundation of presence, action arises naturally: pausing before responding, listening deeply, appreciating what is working, and trusting the unfolding process. These practices cultivate clarity and courage in the midst of complexity.
The Fruits of Presence-Based Leadership
When presence becomes our way of leading, transformation occurs — not just in outcomes, but in relationships and culture. Teams grow more resilient, organizations become more adaptive, and the work itself becomes more human.
“Every acorn carries within it the promise of the oak. Presence is the sunlight and soil that invite that potential to unfold.”
